Know which products get talked about, and who gets thanked.

Starlie reads every review and tells you which products customers name, what they say about finding things in stock, and who on the floor is being thanked by name.

Two out of three bad reviews never get a reply, and the average business takes nearly three days to answer the ones it does. On a retail shop listing that is a complaint sitting at the top with nothing underneath it, being read by everyone deciding where to go tonight. Starlie has your answer written the day it lands.

One review, read the way Starlie reads it

The kind of review retail shops get. Starlie worked out everything underneath it from those sentences and nothing else.

The candles are the best I have found anywhere and the last one burned for weeks. A woman named Ruth put one aside for me when they ran out last month and remembered my name when I came back for it. The greeting cards are always sold out by the weekend though.

The reply waiting for you

Thanks for this, Helen. A review like this means a lot to a small retail shop. Hope to see you again soon. — Otto

Written from what this customer actually named. You can send it, change it, or leave it.

Starlie learns your products and staff

Every review names things. Starlie keeps a running count of what was said about each of your products and staff, with the sentence it came from, and it refuses to turn a handful of opinions into a score.

Your products

Starlie will not summarise one until six people have mentioned it. Below that you get the quotes and the count, because a handful of opinions is not a score.

Your staff

Starlie will not summarise a member of staff until eight customers have named them. A summary about a person gets read as a performance review, so it costs more.

Shelf

Which products customers named and what they said, what they could not find, and who on the floor got thanked. Praise that names someone is kept as a shoutout. A complaint is never filed under anybody’s name. It is a screen in Starlie that only retail shops get, next to the inbox, and it is built out of the same reviews — nothing on it was typed in by you.

Your team is safe here

Praise that names somebody is kept and shown to you. A complaint that names somebody is counted as a complaint about how a customer was treated, and the name is not stored with it. There is no file on anybody in Starlie.

What Starlie will not sit on until morning

The things that go wrong in retail shops and cannot wait. Starlie knows these phrases and what to suggest when one turns up.

A customer says something you sold them hurt somebody or was unsafe. Anything left on the shelf tonight is the same batch.

Take the rest of that line off the shelf today and check the supplier and the date. Call the customer. Confirm nothing about the fault in a public reply.

Somebody says the till took the wrong amount. Every other customer that day may have hit the same thing.

Check the day and the item on the till today. Sort it with the customer directly and keep the amounts out of any public reply.

A customer says they were accused or treated unfairly in your shop. This is the review that travels furthest and fastest.

Talk to whoever was on the floor that day and look at the footage before anyone replies. Answer once, in public, short, and take the detail private.

Three interruptions a week at most, and nothing before seven in the morning or after ten at night, unless it is the kind of thing you would want to be woken for.

What a reply from your shop must never say

Starlie reads its own reply back before you are allowed to approve it. These are the ones that only matter in your trade.

  • Never discuss a customer's payment or order details in a public reply.

  • Never confirm a product fault in public before you know what happened. It becomes the quote everyone uses.

  • Never mention theft, cameras or police in a public reply, even to defend the shop.

  • Never name a member of staff in a public reply about a complaint.

  • Quoting the policy back at somebody in public wins the argument and loses everyone reading it.

Not quite your shop?

Starlie reads reviews the same way for every kind of local business. What changes is what it pulls out of the sentences, and what it will wake you for.
